On December 6, 1969, twenty - six visionary women embarked upon a new and challenging path in their Delta lives - they established The Federal City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Throughout the past 50 years, The Federal City Alumnae Chapter sorors have unselfishly given of their time, energy and talents to the citizens of the District of Columbia.

Programs and projects from the early days included: "Operation I.D." for the Barry Farms community, Senior citizens activities at Garfield Terrace, Edgewood Terrace, Judiciary House Senior Citizen center, and D.C. Village, A Family Life conference, parenting classes for teenage mothers, Health Fairs, Voter Registration programs, and tutorial and Literacy programs. In the later years, the Adopt-a-Family, Adopt-a-School and Del-Teen programs were initiated.

The Federal City Alumnae Chapter has continued its commitment to the arts, education and social action through involvement with African-American art galleries, student cultural arts workshops, the Emerging Artist program, an annual College and Career Fair, school trips to visit members of Congress, town hall meetings and voter registration drives.

The Federal City Alumnae Chapter is a highly recognized and impactful organizational force that attracts strategic partners to serve effectively the needs of the community.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Federal City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is an organization of college-educated women committed to constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community throughout the District of Columbia.
