“Social Action is not just what we do, it is who we are.” One of the first official acts by our Founders was participating in the “Women’s Suffrage March” in March 1913. Since then we have been fighting for Equal Pay, Fair Housing, Jobs, and other perennial issues affecting women and the Black community. The members of theFCAC work throughout the year to impact local and national policies impacting D.C. residents.

Signature Programs:

Delta Days at the Council of the District of Columbia

This annual legislative forum is designed to provide an opportunity for Deltas in Washington D.C., to engage the members of the D.C. Council and the mayor in meaningful dialogue on pending legislation and issues important to the community we serve. The event is open to members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. only. This year, DDDCC is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 29th.

In addition to our annual legislative forum, members of TheFCAC regularly testify at City Council hearings. Most recently, we have testified on “The Charles Hamilton Houston and Other Diverse Washingtonians Commemorative Works Act of 2017,” “Trafficking Survivors Relief Act,” and the bill to establish a “Commission on African American History and Culture in the Mayor’s Office on African American Affairs.”

Claudia L. McKoin Public Service Leadership Training Academy

The goal of the Claudia L. McKoin Academy is to increase the number of women of color involved in policy making through informational sessions and mentorships. The program is named for one of the FCAC’s past chapter presidents who has over 30 years of experience in the private and public sectors in the areas of government relations, lobbying, public affairs and community relations, and human resources management. We are looking for candidates to participate in the next McKoin Academy slated to begin January 2022.

National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) 

Every year since 2012, theFCAC has actively participated in this National Event to increase the number of registered voters in D.C. We registered over 100 voters in 2017 at various locations throughout the city.
